Biografia
I Pankow nascono nel
1981 e sono tra i primi gruppi elettronico/industriali
in Europa ed il primo in Italia. Uno dei membri fondatori,
Maurizio FM Fasolo insieme ad altri 5 componenti del
gruppo, crea suoni ispirati a Joy Division, The Eearly
Kraftwerk and Throbbing Gristle.
Dopo vari cambiamenti di line-up e l'arrivo del carismatico
cantante-poeta Alex Spalck, il progetto comincia a suscitare
interesse anche fuori dai confini italiani, e la prima
apparizione al Metropol di Berlino nel 1984 segna l'inizio
di una lunga e acclamata carriera per la band.
Dopo qualche release su cassetta e un paio di apparizioni
su compilation italiane, la Kindergarten Records e Mario
Rivera di Rockerilla con la collaborazione della Polygram,
pubblica il primo disco del gruppo, un EP con 4 brani,
che include le prime, più accessibili, EBM-Electro
tracks (il termine EBM non era stato ancora inventato)
"God's Deneuve" e "Wodkachaos" che
diventano molto conosciute in Italia e all'estero, in
particolar modo "Wodkachaos" che poco dopo
l'uscita del disco è già un classico della
EBM e uno dei pezzi piu richiesti nei "bis" dei loro concerti.
1988, Adrian Sherwood produce il loro primo album "Freiheit
für die Sklaven" che contiene una sfilza di
classici Industrial/EBM come: "Nice Bottom",
"Touch" e la cover di Prince "Girls and
Boys". Segue l'invito al leggendario Techno Club
di Talla a Frankfurt A/M. e un considerevole numero
di concerti memorabili in Germania, Svizzera e Francia.
Poco dopo, il singolo prodotto a Londra sempre da Sherwood "Kunst und Wahnsinn", viene sorprendentemente
stampato in 4 paesi oltre che in italia: USA (Wax Trax),
Belgio (KK), Germania (Zoth Ommog) e Great Britain (ABC)
1989, segue l'album "Gisela" che diventa subito
un top hit dell' Industrial/Electro in Europa e negli
USA. I Pankow entrano nelle charts tedesche e anche
in USA dove il gruppo sopporterà un lungo tour
di 29 concerti in 40 giorni tra marzo e maggio 1990.
Con oltre 120 concerti solo nel 1990 i Pankow diventano
il gruppo industrial più di successo dei primi
anni 90.
1991, l'album dal vivo 'Omne Animal Triste Post Coitum'
che è una impressionante testimonianza dei loro
selvaggi e potenti concerti.
1992 "Treue Hunde" registrato e prodotto a
Londra con Paul Kendall e il remix-album 'Svobody',
che è stato il primo album "Industrial" pubblicato nell'europa dell'est. (Cecoslovacchia).
Improvvisamente Alex Spalck fugge in Australia e FM
e Paolo Favati pubblicano dopo 4 anni (settembre 1966) "Pankow" con Enzo Regi e un cantante del quale
non è possibile scriverne il nome.
1997, Esce il supposto ultimo segno di vita dei Pankow "Wodka, Erdbeeren und weitere Katastrophen"
una sorta di "Best of Rarities" ed una serie
di demo-tracks mai pubblicate in precedenza.
Dicembre 2001, Alex scrive i test per il nuovo album
dei Pankow in aereo, ha abbastanza tempo per farlo da
Albury-Wodonga a Firenze...gli altri lo aspettano al
varco, e allestiscono la sua sala di registrazione nel
cesso di Alessandro Cellai, dove passerà una
settimana a cantarci dentro. L'album "life is offensive
and refuses to apologise" viene sorprendentemente
finito in una decina di giorni, ed esce dopo qualche
mese per la Minus Habens di Ivan Iusco. La line-up cambia
nuovamente, ancora fm, Alex Spalck, Enzo Regi e lessandro
Cellai, diventato nel frattempo una colonna portante
del gruppo che purtroppo lascia il gruppo subito dopo
l'uscita dell'album.
Agosto 2002, i due superstiti FM e Enzo eseguono dal
vivo per la prima volta "Trasmissione Notturna" con la compagnia di ballo di Keith Ferrone, Florence
Dance Company al Teatro Goldoni a Firenze. Lo spettacolo
viene replicato varie volte in numerosi teatri italiani.
Giugno 2003, torna Paolo Favati.
...Gennaio 2004, Alex ha comprato un altro biglietto
per Firenze, avrà ancora tempo a sufficienza
per scrivere un altro album.

Biography
A short introduction to
the 'history' of Pankow for the younger among you that
might not remember...
Pankow (founded back in 1981) were one of the very first
electronic/industrial acts coming out from Italy. The
founding memeber Maurizio FM Fasolo and his five co-band
members at that time created sounds inspired by the
likes of Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire and early
Kraftwerk.
After various line-up changeings and the arrival of
the charismatic lead-singer and poet AlexSpalck, the
project started to become noted also abroad and a first
live-appearance in Berlin in 1984 marked the start of
a long ongoing and successful career for the band. After
a few cassette-releases and compilation appearances,
Kindergarten Records - in collaboration with Polygram
- released a first 4-tracks EP in 1984, that included
the first more accessible, EBM-Electro-like tracks (even
though the term 'EBM' was not 'invented' by that time...):
The songs 'God's Deneuve' and 'Wodkachaos' became major
hits in Italy and abroad and especially 'Wodkachaos'
became a REAL classic of EBM later on, when Pankow started
touring the world and the song was one of the most requested
tracks for Encores at every show!
1988, ADRIAN SHERWOOD produced their first album 'Freiheit
fur die Sklaven' - an album that contained a string
of Industrial/EBM-classics such as 'Nice Bottom', 'Touch'
or the Prince-Coverversion 'Boys and Girls'. Invitations
to Talla's legendary 'Techno Club' in Frankfurt and
a number of memorable gigs in Germany, Switzerland and
France followed. But it was with the following Maxi-Single
'Kunst & Wahnsinn/Art & Madness' only, when
PANKOW achieved their world-wide breakthrough with the
maxi (always produced by Adrian Sherwood) being licensed
to America (Wax Trax), Belgium (KK Records), Germany
(Zoth Ommog) and the U.K.
1989, the following album 'Gisela' was a Top Hit album
in Industrial/Electro both sides of the ocean and entered
the charts both in Germany and the U.S., that saw PANKOW
touring through 29 cities from March to May 1990. With
over 120 concerts in 1990 alone, Pankow became THE most
successful industrial live-act in the early 90ies.
1991, the live-album 'Omne Animal Triste Post Coitum'
is an impressive testimonial of their sheer live-power.
There were only two more albums (and a number of singles,
including the hits 'Remember Me' and 'My Baby can dance')
with the original line-up, that included FM, Alex Spalck,
Paolo F and A. Gimignani.
1992 'Treue Hunde' - recorded and produced in London
with Paul Kendall and the Remix-Album 'Svobody', that
was the first ever industrial album to be released also
in Eastern Europe (Czechoslovakia 1992).
Suddenly Alex Spalck moved to Australia then FM and
Paolo F released after four years (September 1996) another
self-titled album under the name PANKOW with Gianluca
Becuzzi (Limbo) on vocals and Enzo Regi of THB3.
1997, the 'supposed' last 'sign of life' by PANKOW finally
was the album 'Wodka, Erdbeeren und weitere Katastrophen'
a sort of 'Best of Rarities and never before released
demo-tracks'-album.
December 2001, Alex wrote the lyrics in the airplane,
he had enough time from Albury-Wodonga to Florence...
the album "life is offensive and refuses to apologise" was incredibly ready after one week and they immediately
signed with the most known record label from the deep
south of Italy, Minus Habens. The line-up changed again,
fm, Alex Spalck, Enzo Regi and Alessandro Cellai that
left the band immediately the release of the album.
August 2002, the group performs for the first time "Trasmissione
Notturna" with Keith Ferrone's Florence Dance Company
at Teatro Goldoni in Florence.
June 2003, Paolo F. is back! a new single taken from "life is offensive..." will be out in December.
...January 2004, Alex bought another ticket to Florence,
he will have enough time to write the new album.
