Siamo onorati di accogliere nella nostra area interviste Thomas Adam dei De/Vision. Benvenuto tra noi. Siete sulla scena electro da più di un ventennio, molte situazioni sono cambiate ed assieme a queste il vostro stile che oggi risulta più evoluto. Quanto rimane dentro di voi degli originali De/Vision?

-|-|-» Thomas: Ciao! Sì, è vero, molte cose sono cambiate, la nostra musica si è evoluta in modo costante e naturalmente da una forma di synthpop piuttosto semplice, ma comunque molto orecchiabile, siamo approdati ad uno stile più maturo fatto di suoni complessi e sofisticati. Ma c'è un aspetto che non è mai cambiato: è sempre stato il nostro obiettivo scrivere una buona electro pop-music con grandi melodie. Questo è ciò che stiamo ancora cercando di fare e penso che stiamo procedendo sempre più verso il meglio.

Ormai potete ragionevolmente considerarvi un gruppo affermato a livello mondiale, avendo scritto una pagina dell'evoluzione della scena elettronica europea. Quanto vi è costata in termini di sacrifici questa lenta ascesa? Quali sono stati i maggiori ostacoli che si sono opposti ad una carriera così tenace?

-|-|-» Thomas: Non ho mai avuto la sensazione che abbiamo dovuto compiere dei veri sacrifici. Abbiamo uno dei migliori posti di lavoro al mondo. La nostra musica ci offre la possibilità di viaggiare in paesi lontani e persino ottenere denaro. Abbiamo lavorato molto duramente per divenire ciò che siamo oggi. Abbiamo messo cuore e anima nella nostra musica, aspetto che a volte risulta essere molto difficile. Ma dopo tutto abbiamo il privilegio di vivere il nostro sogno. Quando appartieni al mondo della musica per più di 20 anni è inevitabile attraversare momenti di alti e bassi ed affrontare numerosi ostacoli e difficoltà. Non posso davvero dire quali siano stati i principali ostacoli ma ognuno di essi è sempre una sfida, un'occasione per richiamare il meglio di sè al fine di superare quella specifica difficoltà.

Quale è stato l'album della vostra discografia che ha segnato concretamente l'inizio di una nuova epoca stilistica?

-|-|-» Thomas: "Void". Posso affermarlo senza alcuna esitazione: questo album ha decisamente cambiato l'immagine, il volto di De/Vision. Era nuovo, sperimentale. In pratica è risultato assai lontano da tutto ciò che avevamo realizzato prima. E' stato molto importante per noi, non ci sono dubbi su questa considerazione.

"Popgefahr" il nuovo album. Prima di parlarne dicci qual'è stata l'innovativa ispirazione cresciuta dentro voi durante gli oltre due anni che lo separano da "Noob".

-|-|-» Thomas: Prima di iniziare a lavorare al nuovo album eravamo già sulla sua strada da più di due anni. Abbiamo sempre voluto andare in tour in America ma non ha mai funzionato perché questa operazione era troppo costosa, specialmente andare lì con la live band al completo, compreso il nostro batterista e chitarrista. Ecco perché abbiamo deciso di andarci senza il sostegno live, esibendoci come puro spettacolo elettronico. Nel 2008 abbiamo toccato il Nord ed il Sud America e nel 2009 siamo tornati nuovamente nell'America del Nord. Oltre ciò abbiamo suonato in tutta l'Europa. Dopo tanti anni trascorsi sul palco con batteria e chitarre, questa electro-esperienza è stata per noi davvero una rinascita, la sola che ci ha resi ancor più determinati a realizzare un altro album esclusivamente elettronico come nella tradizione di "Noob", anche se io non la definirei propriamente ispirazione innovativa.

Ora puoi descriverci tutti i dettagli circa la nuova release. Che cosa dobbiamo aspettarci da questa?

-|-|-» Thomas: Grande eletro pop-music, che altro? Come ho accennato prima, abbiamo voluto creare un altro album vicino allo stile di "Noob". Percepiamo entrambi la sensazione che "Popgefahr" continui dove termina "Noob". Da tempo è già uscito, ma credo che tutti coloro i quali non l'hanno ancora ascoltato in realtà dovrebbero farlo. E 'un album composto da dieci tracce up-tempo concepite per il dancefloor. Ci sono inoltre alcune belle ballate dalle melodie orecchiabili e testi romantici. Praticamente tutto ciò che sogni da quando hai incominciato ad ascoltare l'electropop!

Popgefahr Records è soprattutto la vostra neonata personale label: quali progetti avete intenzione di realizzare attraverso questa? Forse scritturare nuovi talenti prodotti dai De/Vision?

-|-|-» Thomas: Prima di tutto la Popgefahr Records è stata fondata come una piattaforma per le realizzazioni dei De/Vision. Al momento è esclusivamente a nostro uso ma è relativamente possibile che altre band o artisti potranno essere scritturati in futuro.

Noto che nella nuova track-list appaiono solo dieci tracce senza nessun ulteriore remix che normalmente completa ogni produzione. Perchè una lista così sobria?

-|-|-» Thomas: Perchè remix supplementari? E'un normale, regolare album, non un album di remix o qualcosa del genere. Ecco perché credo che l'elenco dei brani sia ok così com'è. La Special Edition di Popgefahr include comunque anche il singolo "Rage/Time To Be Alive" (Radio Edits ed una extended club version di "Rage") ed inoltre una chiavetta USB contenente remixes di alcune nostre vecchie canzoni. Chi scaricherà l'album su iTunes potrà ottenere una traccia extra intitolata "Free World", tuttavia l'album "Popgefahr" resta composto unicamente da dieci canzoni.

Parlando appunto delle nuove canzoni "Rage e "Time to be alive", esse sono già entrate nella prestigiosa German Alternative Charts (DAC) aggiudicandosi la prima posizione: un buon inizio, che ne pensi?

-|-|-» Thomas: Naturalmente siamo stati molto felici. Nel frattempo l'album era entrato anche nella German Top 100 Charts. Ora aspettiamo e vediamo cosa succederà..

Molti nuovi concerti programmati in Germania, l'Est europa e la Spagna. Possiamo aspettarci qualche tour anche in Italia?

-|-|-» Thomas: Purtroppo no. Ad essere onesti non ha senso suonare in Italia: sembra che da voi non abbiamo molti fan. Abbiamo suonato due volte, a Roma e pochi anni dopo a Milano. Cosa posso dire? E' stato piuttosto strano, per questo non credo verremo in Italia in un prossimo futuro. Sorry!

We are honored to greet Thomas Adam from De/Vision, today interviewed by webzine. Welcome. You have been on the electro-scene for over twenty years, many situations have changed and along with them your actual style has evolved. What remains nowadays within you of the "first De/Vision"?

-|-|-» Thomas: Hello! Yes, it's true, many things have changed and our music evolved steadily and naturally from rather simple but nevertheless quite catchy synthpop to a more mature, complex and sophisticated sound. But there is one thing that never changed. It was always our aim to write good electronic pop-music with great melodies and that's what we're still trying to do, and I think we're getting better and better..

Now you can consider yourselves a band established worldwide, having written a page in the evolution of the European electronic scene. How much has this slow ascent cost you in terms of sacrifices? What were the biggest obstacles you encountered during a career so tenacious?

-|-|-» Thomas: I never had the feeling we had to make sacrifices. We have one of the best jobs in the world. Our music gives us the chance to travel to far away countries and even get money for it. We worked very hard in order to get where we are today, we put our heart and soul into our music, which can be very difficult sometimes. But after all, we are privileged to live our dream...When you're in the music business for more than 20 years, you're going through ups and downs and face many obstacles and difficulties. I can't really say which obstacles were the biggest but each one is always a challenge, a chance to call up the best in you in order to overcome that obstacle.

Which album in your discography marked the real beginning of D/V's new era?

-|-|-» Thomas: "Void"...I can say that without any hesitation...this album definitely changed the image, the face of De/Vision...it was new and experimental, it was so very far away from everything we had done before...this album was very important for us indeed, there's no doubt about that.

"Popgefahr": the newest album. Before talking about this much-awaited event, please tell us what has been the innovative inspiration that grew inside you during the more than two years that separate it from "Noob"

-|-|-» Thomas: Before we started working on the new album, we were on the road for more than 2 years. We always wanted to go on tour in America but it never worked out because it was too expensive to go there with the complete live band, including our drummer and guitar player. That's why we decided to go there without our live support, performing pure, electronic shows. In 2008 we went to North and Southamerica and in 2009 we came back to Northamerica. Besides that we played shows all over Europe. After so many years on stage with drums and guitars, this electronic experience was somehow refreshing and that merely made us all the more determined to do another straight electronic album in the tradition of "Noob", although I wouldn't call that an innovative inspiration, anyway.

Now you can tell us all the details about your much awaited new release. What should we expect from it?

-|-|-» Thomas: Some great electronic pop-music, what else? As I said before, we wanted to do another album in the tradition of "Noob", we both have the feeling that "Popgefahr" continues where "Noob" ends. It's already released by now, those who have not yet listened to it, should really do that. It's a ten track album with up-tempo songs made for the dancefloors, then there are beautiful ballads, catchy melodies and romantic words. Everything you're dreaming of when you're in love with electronic pop-music.

Popgefahr Records is above all your own label: what projects are you going to achieve through it? Perhaps signing new talents produced by yourself?

-|-|-» Thomas: First of all, Popgefahr Records was established as a platform for De/Vision releases. At the moment it is is exclusively for De/Vision but it's quite possible that other bands/artists will be signed in the future.

I see that in the new track-list there are only ten tracks without any additional remixes, important components that usually completes every production. Why a list so sober?

-|-|-» Thomas: Why additional remixes?? It's a normal, regular album, not a remix album or something like that. That's why I believe that the track list is o.k. the way it is. The "Popgefahr" Special Edition also contains the single "Rage/Time to be alive" (Radio Edits and an extended club version of "Rage") and a USB-memory stick which contains remixes of older D/V songs, and the people who download the album on iTunes get an extra track, called "Free World", but nevertheless, the album "Popgefahr" consists of 10 songs.

About the new tracks "Rage" and "Time to Be Alive".. they have already entered in the prestigious German Alternative Charts (DAC) winning the first position: a good start, what do you think?

-|-|-» Thomas: Of course, we were very happy about that. In the meantime, the album had also entered the German Top 100 Charts. Now let's wait and see what happens next.

There are new concerts scheduled for Germany, Eastern Europe and Spain. Could we expect a tour in Italy too?

-|-|-» Thomas: Unfortunately not, to be honest, it makes no sense at all to play shows in Italy. it seems we don't have much fans in Italy, we played there twice, in Rome and a few years later in Milan, what can I say, it was rather strange, that's why I don't think we will come to Italy in the near future Sorry!
