Michael, sei l'unico elemento proveniente dall'originale line-up, quella nata nel 2003 con gli ex membri Timo e Mike. Trovi cambiato il sound system degli S-M se confrontato con quello di sette anni fa, prima dell'entrata in scena di Charly?

-|-|-» SM: Beh: primo siamo cresciuti molto, il nostro suono è più professionale, secondo: Charly è convinto che la nostra musica stia avendo una grande influenza, terzo: abbiamo imparato dagli errori commessi in passato, migliorandoci.

Quale musica diffondeva il vostro primo autoprodotto "Simply Different" del 2005?

-|-|-» SM: Eravamo influenzati prevelentemente da bands come i Front 242.

Leggo che avete da sempre un buon rapporto con gli eventi live. Riuscite ad esprimere tecnicamente il meglio di voi nella comodità di uno studio oppure vi muovete con disinvoltura soprattutto davanti al pubblico?

-|-|-» SM: Ci piace il pubblico e ci piace molto esibirci, specialmente Charly ama molto coinvolgere gli spettatori. Secondo il nostro punto di vista ci consideriamo più una live band.

Nel 2008 avete supportato i Blutengel: quali altri gruppi avete affiancato?

-|-|-» SM: Per ora solo i Blutengel ma supporteremo altri gruppi in futuro.

Proprio in occasione del concerto dei Blutengel avete presentato l'album "Extend The Line". Come ha reagito il pubblico dopo l'ascolto di questa release? Quale brano ha funzionato meglio?

-|-|-» SM: La presentazione di "ETL" è stata un grande successo. La folla l'ha davvero apprezzato. "Nemesis" è la canzone che ha funzionato al meglio quel giorno.

L'evento Party In Leck è stata anche un'occasione per devolvere il ricavato a favore dei bambini in difficoltà. Voi siete stati tra i promotori di questa grande iniziativa e ce ne complimentiamo. E' un fenomeno raro che artisti del circuito electro si attivino con simili opere di beneficienza?

-|-|-» SM: L'evento in Leck è stato molto importante per noi: poter donare i guadagni ha significato qualcosa di davvero speciale.

Cosa ci dite della vostra label "Nordlicht Records"? E' un progetto finalizzato esclusivamente alla vostra stessa autoproduzione oppure l'etichetta è aperta anche ad altri artisti? "Extend The Line (Rebuild)" è stato pubblicato per la Danse Macabre, perchè non dalla Nordlicht ?

-|-|-» SM: L'anno scorso abbiamo ricevuto un'offerta interessante da parte della Danse Macabre che non potevamo rifiutare, così ora siamo con loro.

Parlando appunto della Danse Macabre: eccellente label, molto oculata e selettiva. Come è stata la vostra esperienza?

-|-|-» SM: Collaborare con la Danse Macabre è emozionante e produttivo: ci piace molto lavorare con loro.

Oggi comporre musica è molto più facile che un tempo. Riuscire invece a farsi apprezzare emergendo dalla mischia è sicuramente più complicato; è sufficiente poter contare sulle proprie capacità oppure è ancora indispensabile essere introdotti dalle "persone giuste"?

-|-|-» SM: Pensiamo necessiti una combinazione tra tutti questi fattori.

Parlando ancora del vostro album remixato, personalmente adoro la rielaborazione di "Seelenschmerz (Spin Remix Rebuild 09)", specialmete nei tratti dove la voce si dissolve tra i synths. Charle, Michael: chi di voi ha ricostruito così bene questo remix?

-|-|-» SM: Che tu ci creda o meno, lo abbiamo fatto insieme. Charly ed io interagiamo molto bene insieme. Abbiamo condividiamo le medesime idee e quindi il processo creativo si avvia automaticamente.

Sapete spiegarci cosa possiede di così attrattivo l'universo electro per riuscire a catturare l'interesse di un ascoltatore e, come nel vostro caso, convincerlo a suonare questo tipo di musica? Quali particolari sensazioni riesce a suscitare diversamente da altri generi?

-|-|-» SM: Crediamo che la musica electro sappia trasmettere molte emozioni e sentimenti. Oggi questi valori sono diventati più importanti per la gente.

L'attuale crisi economica sta davvero penalizzando le nuove produzioni discografiche alternative? In quale misura? Quali sono a vostro parere le migliori strategie per fronteggiare il problema?

-|-|-» SM: Questo evento ha sicuramente e negativamente influenzato le etichette alternative e indipendenti. Molte tra loro non sopravviveranno. L'unica via di uscita è fare buona musica combinata ad una grande dose di idee e business mirato a mantenere bassi i costi di produzione.

State progettando un nuovo album: potete darci qualche anticipazione? Sarà in linea con il vostro repertorio oppure state introducendo nuove sonorità?

-|-|-» SM: "The Arc Of Truth" rappresenterà un nuovo passo per i Shadow-Minds, sicuramente qualcosa che guardarà molto avanti. Il nuovo album è influenzato dai sentimenti personali di Michael e miei.

Ognuno ascolta la musica che più gli aggrada e come più gli piace. Legittimamente. Esiste tuttavia qualcosa che non approvate nel modo con cui oggi il pubblico consuma un prodotto musicale?

-|-|-» SM: La pirateria, i download illegali rubano il buon lavoro realizzato dagli artisti.

Mp3, downloading, audio cd... come vorreste fosse il vostro mercato sonoro ideale?

-|-|-» SM: Una mixture di mp3 ed il buon, vecchio cd!

Michael, nowadays you're the only element from the original 2003 line-up formed by the past members Mike and Timo. In which measure is changed the sound system of S-M if compared with your style of seven years ago before introducing Charly?

-|-|-» SM: Well first we have grown a lot, our sound is more professional now, second Charly is having a big influence, and third we've learned from the mistakes we made and improved.

What kind of music spread your first self-released "Simply Different" in 2005?

-|-|-» SM: We were influenced by bands like Front 242.

I read that you have always a good relationship with the live events. Do you prefer the comfort of a studio-recording or your talent moves better especially in front of the public?

-|-|-» SM: We like the audience and we really enjoy performing. Charly's speciality is playing with the audience. In our point of view we are more a live band.

In the year 2008 you supported the Blutengel: What other bands have you joined in its tours?

-|-|-» SM: Blutengel only, but we will support other band in the future.

Just at the concert with Blutengel you have presented to the public the album "Extend The Line". How has the public reacted after listening to this release? What were the song that worked better?

-|-|-» SM: Presenting "ETL" was a great success. The crowd really enjoyed it. "Nemesis" was the song which worked the best with the crowd in that day.

The event Party in Leck was also an opportunity to donate the proceeds to benefit children in need. You are been among the promoters of this great initiative that we applaud. Is it a rare phenomenon that artists become from the "electro" circuit works for charity ?

-|-|-» SM: The event in Leck was something which was very important to us and donating the earnings meant a lot to us.

Tell us something about your own label "Nordlicht Records". Is this a project aimed solely at your own self production or the label is also open to other artists? "Extend The Line (Rebuild)" was published by Danse Macabre. Why not by Nordlicht Records?

-|-|-» SM: Last year we received an offer from the label Danse Macabre which we could not decline, so we are now with them.

About Danse Macabre: an excellent label, very careful and selective. How was your experience?

-|-|-» SM: Danse Macabre is awesome and we really enjoy and profit working with them.

Today composing music is much easier than before. To be appreciated and emerging from the fray is certainly more complicated; Is it sufficient to rely on their ability or is ever indispensable to be introduced by the "right people"?

-|-|-» SM: We believe a combinatipn of both.

Speaking again of your remix album, I adore incredibly the beautiful reworking of "Seelenschmerz (Spin Remix Rebuild 09)", especially the stretches where the voice fades away among the synths. Charly, Michael: Which of you has elaborated so well this remix?

-|-|-» SM: If you want to believe it or not, we done it both. Charly and I interact so well together. We brainstorm our ideas and then the process automatically starts.

Can you tell us what has so worthwhile the "electro" universe to be able to capture the interest of a listener and, as in your particular case, convince him to play this kind of music? What particular feelings it arouses differently from other genres?

-|-|-» SM: We believe that Electro Music transmits a lot of emotion and feelings. Nowadays theses values have become more important to the people.

Does the current economic crisis really penalizing the new alternative records productions? In what misure? Which are, in your opinion, the best strategies to tackle this problem?

-|-|-» SM: It has definetly and negatively influenced the alternative and independent labels. Many of them will not survive and the only way out is to make good music combined with good business ideas and keeping the costs low.

I know that you are planning a new album. Can you give us some news? Is it in line with your odinary repertoire or you are introducing new sounds?

-|-|-» SM: "The arc of Truth" will be a new step for the Shadow-Minds, definetly something to look forward too. The new album is influenced by the personal feelings of Michael and me.

Everyone listens to the better music that he likes and how he much like it. Legitimately. However, is there something that you not approved in the manner in which the public consumes the music products?

-|-|-» SM: Piracy products, illegal downloads which try to take the good works made by the artists.

Mp3, downloading, audio-cd ... how is your ideal "sound marketing"?

-|-|-» SM: A mixture of all mp3 and the good old CD
