Che rapporto hai con i media, Ingo? Pensi che essi si occupino abbastanza degli artisti underground?

-|-|-» Ingo: Penso che esista un movimento molto attivo contro la chart rubbish attualmente in corso. Un numero sempre crescente di persone visita la rete alla ricerca di artisti sconosciuti. Sono stato molto sorpreso di trovare il mio nome tra i forums russi o essere contattato dagli Stati Uniti tramite Infused Internetradio subito dopo la pubblicazione delle prime canzoni su myownmusic (una comunità Internet tedesca per la "homemade" music).

Le tue principali ispirazioni derivano dai Depeche Mode, Wolfsheim, De/Vision ed il tuo suono è un insieme di bass lines, ambient sounds e synth lines molto vicini ai Camouflage... hai l'electro nel sangue! Vero Ingo?

-|-|-» Ingo: E' vero, faccio la musica che mi piace. E forse non ho ancora terminato la mia ricerca verso un suono proprio da attribuire al progetto Disreflect. Vedremo dove finirà questo viaggio.

E tutto è nato da una semplice sound card ed una versione di Cubase..., raccontaci la tua storia..

-|-|-» Ingo: E lo è tutt'ora. Sto ancora utilizzando un notebook 1600MHz con la sua scheda audio. Si, credo sia un buon modo per concentrarsi sul cuore di una canzone. Se ricordate il primo album degli Yazoo, le canzoni erano molto minimali ma belle. E mi piace la produzione mobile. La maggior parte della mia musica è creata durante il tragitto di andata e ritorno sul treno che prendo per lavoro quotidianamente.

Quali particolari riscontri hai avuto fino ad oggi riguardo la tua musica? Se non sbaglio ti diverte molto farla conoscere in giro per il mondo, vero?

-|-|-» Ingo: Io faccio musica per divertirmi e non ho mai curato l'aspetto self-marketing, (non ne sarei in grado, lo ammetto). Quindi sono contento che le persone in tutto il mondo mi trovino da sole. Quando crei qualcosa di buono è piu soddisfacente se piace al pubblico .

Quindi suoni per pura passione, il denaro non è una tua priorità..

-|-|-» Ingo: Le persone non sono piu disposte a pagare per la musica, scaricare è molto piu facile. Gruppi come Mesh o De/Vision devono fare un sacco di tours per crearsi un po' di guadagno. Se riuscirà a comprare un nuovo notebook dai proventi di "Memnophobia" mi riterrà molto fortunato. Ma io non sto lagnandomi, questo è il vero divertimento.

In Germania, terra dalla quale provieni, il fenomeno electro è molto seguito. Che rapporto hai con l'EBM o con altre diramazioni del filone elettronico?

-|-|-» Ingo: Quasi nessuno, lo ammetto. Prima di iniziare a creare musica tre anni fa sono stato molto occupato. Lavoro, casa, bambini.. tutte le solite cose, si sa. Ed ora ho trascorso la maggior parte del mio tempo libero nella creazione di nuovi prodotti.

Parliamo del tuo ottimo e prossimo cd "Mnemophobia"... è obbligatorio chiederti perchè hai scelto un titolo così insolito...esiste qualche vicenda particolare che ti ha ispirato quel nome?

-|-|-» Ingo: Oh, non posso prendere tutti i crediti per la creazione del nome. Quando ho discusso la questione con la ADD ho suggerito "Mnemophobia", che è il nome di una traccia. Todd dalla ADD ha aggiunto l'idea di usare questo termine clinico per l'album. Anch'io ho gradito questa idea!

Come sei riuscito a contattare la label A Different Drum? In che modo ti hanno "scoperto"? Quali sono state le tue sensazioni quando sei entrato a fare parte di un circuito così prestigioso? Hai avuto contatti diretti con il boss Todd Durant?

-|-|-» Ingo: Come ho detto non sono troppo bravo con le faccende di marketing così non ho spedito promo a nessuna etichetta. Era una notte quando trovai un post della ADD sul mio Myspace. Mi chiedeva se avessi potuto gradire la produzione di un CD con loro. Prima di tutto ho pensato ad uno scherzo di un fakeaccount ma poi...piu tardi, Todd mi disse che ero stato raccomandato da "un buon cliente".

Come hai predisposto musicalmente il nuovo cd? Quali sorprese troveremo al suo interno? Quando sarà disponibile nei negozi?

-|-|-» Ingo: Tutte le tracce sono realizzate professionalmente ed attraverso questo processo ho imparato molto sulla produzione. Penso che ciò si possa comprende meglio ascoltando 'A Letter', una traccia emersa in post produzione appunto. Non ci sono brani inediti su questo album, ma tutte le song sono state piu o meno ottimizzate. Quindi, è fortemente raccomandato l'acquisto di questo CD

"Still" è una canzone meravigliosa e mi ha davvero catturato per intensità e melodia che giudico elettronicamente malinconica...di cosa parla esattamente questa traccia?

-|-|-» Ingo: Traggo molte idee dai Myspace-status-Messages. E' interessante ciò che le persone scrivono in questi piccoli box. Qualcuno scrisse "I've loved you so much. Why". Quindi "Still" è una storia che parla chiedendo "perchè?". Di solito creo una bozza e da questa creo il mood. Creano l'atmosfera. Secondo l'umore poi tento di trovare un testo che vada bene. Penso che in "Still" la melodia e l'adattamento del testo si associno piuttosto bene.

Qual'è la strofa preferita estratta da una delle tue canzoni?

-|-|-» Ingo: Mi piace la logica "inversed" di "So Far": "How will my words touch your skin When you're not around ... How will my hands embrace your soul How will I see the world within your eyes" Sono orgoglioso di questo testo.

Cosa detesti maggiormente dell'ambiente electro?

-|-|-» Ingo: Odio un sacco di cose, ma non la scena electro..

E con una buona dose di autocritica, cosa rimproveri a te stesso artisticamente?

-|-|-» Ingo: Ragazzo, questa è una bella domanda. L'unico obiettivo che non avrei mai ammesso potesse realizzarsi, quello della mia prima-produzione di un CD-professionale, si è avverato. Quindi vedremo con quale meta segreta realizzerà il prossimo.

Hai rapporti o contatti con altri artisti tedeschi del tuo stesso genere musicale?

-|-|-» Ingo: Ho un sacco di contatti con altri artisti. Alcuni appaiono nei remix, alcuni altri invece per lo scambio di strategie musicali. Ma non conosco nessuno particolarmente famoso.

Denaro permettendo, quali altre strumentazioni aggiungeresti alle tue per rinforzare ulteriormente il tuo equipaggiamento?

-|-|-» Ingo: Per il momento sarei felice di acquistare un notebook piu potente. Attualmente non vedo alcun motivo di investire in hardware.

Come mai la tua scelta di rimanere un solo project?

-|-|-» Ingo: Non è stato voluto. Ho incontrato due o tre persone che avevano un certo potenziale, ma entrambi vivono lontano da me e visto che credo nel lavoro di squadra per il raggiungimento di buoni risultati, credo che la mia scelta sia stata giusta. Sono in grado di fare ciò che voglio quando voglio.

Come giudichi la crisi del mercato discografico specialmente nell'area underground?

-|-|-» Ingo: Questo si che è un problema. Perchè col tempo le piccole etichette, (come la ADD), svaniranno e con queste anche la diversità se ne sarà andata. Quelle che resteranno saranno solo le majors che hanno il capitale per spingere la loro spazzatura sul mercato. Ma si possono vedere che anche grandi gruppi come i Depeche Mode soffrire di questo fenomeno. La Mute non è più Mute. Se si considerano gli ultimi 2 album dei DM riconoscerai che anche la qualità ne hanno sofferto. Penso che acquistando un cd non fai ricco nessuno ma aiuti la scena a rimanere viva.

Ora Ingo, scegli il miglior cd da salvare per sempre. Quale ?... ( oltre il tuo ovviamente..)

-|-|-» Ingo: Sono stato molto impressionato da "Subkutan" dei De/Vision in particolare dalle melodie piu profonde. E naturalmente, "Violator". Penso che raramente si ascolterà in futuro una tale combinazione così perfetta tra Gore come songwriting e Wilders alla produzione.

What relationship you have with the media, Ingo? Do you think they occupy enough about the undergrounded artists?

-|-|-» Ingo: I think there's a very healthy movement against the current chart-rubbish ongoing. A growing number of people search the net for unkown artists. I was very surprised to find my name in russian forums or beeing approached by the US based Infused internetradio shortly after I published the first songs to myownmusic (a German internet community for 'homemade' Music)

Your main inspirations come from Depeche Mode, Wolfsheim, De / Vision and your sound is a set of bass lines, ambient sounds and synth lines so near to Camouflage ..., you have the electro into your blood! True Ingo?

-|-|-» Ingo: It's true I do the Music I do like. And maybe I haven't finished my way finding the abosulte unique Disreflect sound. We'll see where this journey will end

And all was born from a simple sound card and a version of Cubase ...tell us your story..

-|-|-» Ingo: It still is. I still use a 1600MHz Notebook and it's onboard Soundcard. It think it's a good way to concentrate on the heart of a song. If you look at the first Yazoo album. The songs are very minimal but beautyful. And I like the mobile producing. Most of the producing is done in my daily train to work and back.

What specific results have you had about your music? If I am not mistaken you like a lot to make know item around the world, right?

-|-|-» Ingo: I do music for fun. And I never cared much about self-marketing (i'm not too good at it, I admit). So I'm glad that the people around the world found me. And yes, if you create something you find it satisfying when it's beeing appretiated by the people.

So you play for pure passion, money is not in your priorities ...

-|-|-» Ingo: People are not willing to pay for music anymore, downloading is much easier. Groups like Mesh or De/Vision do a lot of touring to create some income. If I can buy a new notebook from the income of 'Memnophobia' I'm very lucky. But I'm not complaining, it still is great fun.

In Germany, the land you are from, the "electro" phenomenon is very followed . What relationship you have with the EBM or with the other branches of the electronic strand?

-|-|-» Ingo: Almost none I admit. Before I started creating music 3 Years ago I was very busy. Job, house, kids ...all the usual stuff, you know. And now I spent most of my freetime in creating new stuff...

Speak us about your excellent next cd "Mnemophobia "..., is natural to ask you why you chose a particular title so ... there is some story that inspired you for this name ?

-|-|-» Ingo: Oh I can't take the credits for creating the album name. When I discussed that matter with ADD I suggested 'Fear of Memory' which is the name of one track on it. Todd from ADD came up whith the idea to use the clinical term. I loved that idea!

How have you contacted the label A different Drum? In which way they have discovered you? What were your feelings when you're entered to be part of a circuit so prestigious? Have you had contacts directly with the boss Todd Durant?

-|-|-» Ingo: As I have said, I'm not too good at self marketing so I never sent demos to any label. It was one night when I got a mail from ADD on Myspace if I would like to produce a CD with them. First, I thought it would be a joke from a fakeaccount but then.. Later, Todd told me I was recommended by 'a good customer'.

How have you prepared musically the new CD? What surprises we'll find inside it? When it will be available on the shops?

-|-|-» Ingo: All the tracks went through professional mastering and in that process I learned a lot about producing. I think you can hear this by listening to 'A Letter", a track emerged in post production note. There are not new songs on this album, but every song has been more or less optimized. Therefore, it is strongly recommended the purchase of this CD

"Still" is really a wonderful song that has caught me for intensity and melody which I judge as electronically melancholic ... tell us what exactly this track speaks?

-|-|-» Ingo: I draw many ideas from the Myspace-Status-Messages. It's intresting what people write in these little boxes. Someone wrote 'I've loved you so much. Why'. So 'Still' is a story about asking "why ?". I usually do some musical scratches first, they create a mood. According to the mood I try to find a suiting text. I think in 'Still' melody and text fit together rather well.

What is your favorite verse extracted from one of your songs?

-|-|-» Ingo: I do like the inversed logic in 'So Far': "How will my words touch your skin When you're not around ... How will my hands embrace your soul How will I see the world within your eyes" I'm a bit proud of this text... I admit

What you hate mostly of the electro scene?

-|-|-» Ingo: I hate a lot of things, but not the electro scene

And with a good dose of self-reproach, what you reproach to yourself artistically? you mean what are my goals?

-|-|-» Ingo: Boy that's a good question. The one goal what I would never had admitted before -producing a professional CD- came true. So let's see with what secret goal I come up with next :)

Have you some relations or contacts with other German artists of your own music genre?

-|-|-» Ingo: I have lot's of contacts with other artists. Some result in remixes, some are about the exchange of producing tricks. But I don't know anyone famous

Money allowing, which other equipment you should add to your to give to it more powerful sound?

-|-|-» Ingo: For the moment I would be content buying a more powerful Notebook. Currenty I see no reason in investing in more hardware.

Why your choice to remain a solo project?

-|-|-» Ingo: That was not intentional. I met two or three people who would have the potential but they all live far away from my place and I think team-working over the net is to complex to deliver good results. I think it's ok the way it is. I can do what I want when I want it.

How you judge the current discographic crisis, especially in the underground area?

-|-|-» Ingo: Yes this is a problem. Because over time the small lables (like ADD) will vanish and with that the diversity will be gone too. What's left is the major's which have the capital to push their rubbish into the market. But it can be seen that even big groups like Depeche Mode are suffering from that.Since MUTE isn't MUTE anymore. If you look at the last 2 albums you'll recognize that the quality has suffered too. I think it's not about making someone rich if you buy a CD. It's about keeping the scene alive.

And now, Ingo, choose the best CD to save forever. What you choose?...(over your, of course..)

-|-|-» Ingo: I was very impressed by the Subkutan album by De/vision. I my eyes it was their first with deeper melodies/songs. And, of course, 'Violator'. I think we rarely will hear such a perfect combination of Gore's songwriting with Wilders producing ever again.
