-|-|-» CL: Ciao compagni, un sentito grazie per il vostro interesse riguardo la mia musica e il vostro sostegno a tutta la nostra scena.

Incomincio l'intervista con una riflessione. Cosa ti hanno insegnato i più di 20 anni di esperienza musicale?

-|-|-» CL: Mi hanno insegnato a guardarmi le spalle. Ci sono così tanti parassiti in questo business. Ho perso troppe persone che consideravo veramente come una famiglia, alla fine tutto quello che ho ottenuto è stato un coltello nella schiena. E' spaventoso pensare che anche in questa piccola scena è necessario essere molto attenti a non scottarsi. Tutte le labels in cui sono stato coinvolto in passato prima di Alfa Matrix mi hanno ingannato e messo in difficoltà. Anche la Music Research / Zoth Ommog. Questa non merita il rispetto che ha ottenuto, solo le bands appartenenti a questa etichetta dovrebbero ottenere quel rispetto. L'intera etichetta si è evoluta intorno ad un unica persona e la sua salita verso le "stelle" è stata realizzata solo grazie a noi gruppi che fungevamo da pioli nella scala. Poi lui stesso è stato ingannato malamente dal "ragazzo" della Zoth Ommog che ha determinato la fine di quel periodo. Ho avuto in seguito una grave depressione. Ragazzi.. guardatevi le spalle! Anche le persone che considerate come di famiglia possono rivelarsi solo avvoltoi. Tutte le cose positive che ho ricevuto nel fare musica sono venute dai fans, sono loro che mi hanno dato la forza per continuare così a lungo. Quindi un grande grazie a tutti loro.

Rimanere sempre un apprezzato progetto electro, anche dopo così tanto tempo e in un genere musicale in continua evoluzione, non è facile. Sei contento di questo, vero Claus?

-|-|-» CL: Si, non ci sono troppi di artisti che rimangono a lungo sotto i riflettori. Non avrei mai pensato che sarebbe accaduto ad un vecchietto dalla Danimarca. Il mio sogno era quello di fare un disco e basta ma guardandomi indietro è difficile credere quante canzoni ho scritto e pubblicato. Penso di fare qualcosa di giusto, credo. Spero di essere in grado di continuare a realizzare la mia strada, perché la pirateria riguardo la mia musica e riguardo tutte le altre nella nostra scena è così forte che non mancherà molto perchè si distrugga la musica che amiamo. Per cui tutti abbiamo bisogno del sostegno dei fans, ora più che mai. E l'uccisione di quello che amiamo e sono molto contrariato a questo. I pirati hanno una convinzione folle, cioè che stanno aiutando la scena, ma quello che accade in realtà è che abbiamo un range di vendite di materiale originale in perdita e sempre più cd pirata. Gli unici che possono fermare questo fenomeno sono i fans. Ragion per cui confido nella loro forza e nella speranza per il meglio. La vita non sarebbe più la stessa senza l'underground elettronico.

Inizialmente il tuo stile era molto simile a quello dei Front Line Assembly. Quali altre influenze sviluppate nel corso degli anni, hanno influenzato il suono LT così come lo sentiamo oggi?

-|-|-» CL: Sento spesso parlare del confronto con i FLA. Io non sono d'accordo. Ma ciò è solo l'aspetto di un'opinione che comunque non commenterò. Le mie radici musicali sono metal/punk/new wave. Mi sono innamorato della musica elettronica il giorno che ho comprato il primo singolo di Fad Gadget. Mi muovo intorno a quello stile e non sono mai stato intimorito nel provare a mescolare altri generi nel mio songwriting. Sono inoltre un grande estimatore di musica d'organo di chiesa classico che mi ispira molto. Una cosa amo fare inoltre: vagare su "MySpace" cercando gruppi ne mondo. E' molto ispirativo. Basta sedersi ed il suono è quì. Inoltre utilizzo molto i miei sogni come fonte di ispirazione.

Klutae rappresenta un progetto stilistico ellectro/grindcore, mentre LS riflette un'elettronica più sinfonica, oscura ed ostile. Hai due differenti anime?

-|-|-» CL: Penso che tutti abbiamo molti lati. Klutae è il mio playground, qui posso essere molto più spontaneo e spaziarci intorno con umore nero ed autoironia. Ho incominciato questa identità come qualcosa di divertente per poi trasformarlo in qualcos'altro che ha a che fare con la mia esistenza. Ma è difficile oggi sperimentale, ancora a causa del filesharing e della pirateria. Le vendite sono semplicemente troppo basse per permettere che le etichette pubblichino questo genere di musica. Stavo quasi per cominciare l'album seguente di Klutae ma non ero sicuro se realizzarlo. Le idee che ho per questo sono molto aggressive. Più nello spirito del primo e.p. di Klutae. Terrò per me questa idea se nessun altro vorrà prenderla in considerazione. Triste ma vero.

La tua musica ha ispirato gran parte del panorama EBM/Industrial. Cos'hai messo nel tuo suono per renderlo così speciale?

-|-|-» CL: Molte grazie. Se solo conoscessi cosa origina la mia musica lo metterei in una bottiglia e lo venderei. Ho messo ogni fibra della mia anima nel mio lavoro, per me i testi sono altrettanto importanti quanto la musica e non sono assolutamente marginali. Sono la mia terapia. Risolvo tutti i miei problemi personali con essi, e mi aiutano molto. Inoltre impiego sempre tonnellate di tempo per la produzione delle canzoni e dei suoni. Ecco ciò che rende questa musica così speciale. Potete generare qualunque tipo di feeling con i synthsounds e mettere i vostri pensieri nel suono.

So anche che hai una particolare predilezione per le colonne sonore dei film ...

-|-|-» CL: Sì. Da quando ho visto Halloween (l'originale) ed acquistato la colonna sonora, sono stato affascinato dalla musica da film. Il modo con cui si può dare impulso ad una pellicola mediante la musica è sorprendente ed io sto per realizzare il mio sogno. Mentre parliamo sto trattando con un movie maker circa la colonna sonora di un film horror indipendente. Non posso dire null'altro prima che il lavoro sia stato realizzato. La produzione è di un americano e il suo sarà un grande film. Ho letto la sceneggiatura e persino un vecchio fan dell'orrore come me ne ha avuto paura.

Il tuo remix di Frank Tovey dell 'anno 2006 su Myspace è stato scaricato 10000 volte ... è una bella soddisfazione Claus!

-|-|-» CL: Non riesco quasi a crederci. Un giorno ero un pò annoiato ed ho voluto offrire ai fans qualcosa di gratuito, quindi ho fatto un remix e l'ho caricato. Speravo che il remix ottenuto facesse conoscere LS in altri ambienti. Se questa operazione ha condotto alcuni curiosi ad avvicinarsi al mio suono allora ne è valsa la pena.

"The Giant minutes to the Dawn", il tuo precedente album, è stato giudicato da molti critici come quello riferito ai migliori livelli espressivi di LS essendo stato pubblicato dopo qualche anno segnato da produzioni di minor rilievo. Sei è d'accordo su questo punto?

-|-|-» CL: Provo sempre a dare il mio meglio in ogni album, ma ora che ascolto "The Giant..." a distanza di tempo posso giudicarlo in un altro senso acconsentendo che è stato un album molto importante nella mia storia. Penso che il nuovo lavoro sia ancor più importante e imparo molto con ogni album.
" Civil Disobedience" mi comunica realmente una sensibilità speciale ed avverto che funzionerà. Spero che le sensazioni diventino quindi realtà. Penso che questo anno sia a un anno che non si non dimenticherà. Percepisco l'odore di qualcosa sta per arrivare e spero di conoscere di cosa si tratta.

Che cosa ti ricordi circa il talent scout tedesco che ti ha scoperto, Talla 2XLC?

-|-|-» CL: Non amo rivangare ma rispondo per mettere le cose in ordine: Talla non mi ha scoperto. Ho spedito lui un demotape del primo album ma non ha avuto alcuna funzione nella mia musica. Io ero giovane e come i giovani sono caduto in un tranello malizioso. Come ho detto precedentemente, l'obiettivo della label è stato quello di renderlo famoso e ricco. Se è stato generoso lo è stato solo se aveva altre convenienze. Se mi procurassi una denuncia la utilizzerebbe contro di me. Non mi hanno mai pagato per tempo e l'ultima volta me ne sono andato. Un'azienda discografica davvero pessima, del peggior tipo, veramente. Lui e il "ragazzo" che apparteneva alla Zoth Ommog, sono stati il motivo della mia ripartizione. Quel "ragazzo" che Talla pensava di avere sotto controllo è stato un ladro ed un bugiardo. Solamente Talla e lui hanno ucciso la Zoth Ommog. Quando ho cercato di tornare alla Bloodline Talla ha fatto tutto quanto in suo potere per fermare "Carry me" ep. E' riuscito a spaventare questa label e bloccarlo. Potrei continuare all'infinito. Vedete, avevo pensato a Talla e Torben Schmidt come una famiglia. E' fottutamente doloroso essere calpestati dalla tua famiglia. Sono ancora ferito da tutto ciò che è accaduto ma mi ha reso anche più forte. Oggi desidererei non aver mai inviato lui quel nastro.

"Civil Disobedience" un titolo che dice il molto di sè. Il tuo nuovo cd. Di che "disubbidienza" parli? Che genere di sistema civile stai odiando?

-|-|-» CL: Dopo l'11 Settembre la maggior parte dei paesi nel mondo ha fatto le nuove leggi per controllarci e per osservarci dall'alto. Poco a poco ci hanno preso la libertà, forse hanno pensato che non lo avremmo notato se l'avessero fatto poco a poco. Ma dovremmo guardare con molta più attenzione. Stanno usando il timore e l'avversione per cambiare il mondo "libero" che noi vogliamo, ed imporci l'idea che abbiamo bisogno degli stati di polizia. Le email sono controllate, fotocamere dappertutto... Penso sia tempo che i politici si accorgano che questo non è il mondo che vogliamo. E l'unica via di uscita a tutto ciò è di andare per le strade e praticare disubbidienza civile. Il Grande Fratello ci sta osservando ora più che mai e non ho bisogno di questo per vivere una vita felice. Dobbiamo svincolarci dal nostro piccolo ego e convincere tutti a fermare tutto questo.

...quindi i tuoi testi sono sempre pieni di rabbia. Anche in questa occasione...

-|-|-» CL: Si, sembra che ci sia un pò di rabbia anche in quest'album. Vedo così tante cose ingiuste. Bambini e animali abusati e maltrattati. Politici e religiosi, violenza ovunque. Non si posono suonare troppe canzoni felici con un mondo simile.

Cosa ti attendi esattamente da questo nuovo album?

-|-|-» CL: Ora ha una vita propria. Ma spero che gli ascoltatori lo apprezzino tanto quanto io l'ho amato creandolo. E'il mio ventesimo album-anniversario ed ho voluto fosse un album speciale penso inoltre sia esser il mio miglior lavoro. Spero che sia un cd che verrà ricordato in futuro. Spero inoltre che io riesca ad avere abbastanza soldi per un tour, quando avrò risolto i miei problemi. La pirateria sta mangiando su molte vendite. Ma spero sempre.

E 'impossibile non chiederti di parlare del terzo bonus cd "one nine eight two" incluso nel doppio album. Se non sbaglio questo è un omaggio al 1982, anno in cui hai acquistato la tua prima keyboard analogica, una Moog Prodigy. Giusto?

-|-|-» CL: Sì, è un omaggio all'anno in cui iniziò tutto per me. Se in quell'anno non avessi fatto ciò che ho fatto, Leather Strip e Klutae non sarebbero mai esistiti ed io avrei condotto una vita totalmente diversa. Tutti i brani sono scritti e prodotti nel modo in cui ho fatto e poi ho usato i suoni di cui disponevo allora. "You don't look the same" è ricreato dalla prima traccia che io abbia mai scritto. Ho perso il nastro ma è rimasta nella mia testa per tutti questi anni. Così l'ho ricreata dalla mia memoria. Il resto delle canzoni sono fresche come l'album principale, ma scritte come ho fatto nel 1982.

Quali gruppi ascoltavi nel lontano 1982?

-|-|-» CL: Soft Cell, Fad Gadget, Depeche Mode, Human League, Scatterbrain, Twice a Man, e molti altri. Li ascolto tutt'oggi.

Ho letto che hai recentemente fatto un remix di "Circus of Death", dedicato al singolo degli Human League "Being Boiled / Circus of Death" ...

-|-|-» CL: Sì, un ragazzo danese sta progettando un sito tributo agli HL e mi ha chiesto se potevo fare una special cover version come Klutae. E ho detto sì, naturalmente! Qualsiasi cosa per rendere omaggio alle vecchie bands. Dobbiamo molto a loro.

Claus, tu hai quindi indubbiamente una grande predisposizione per i remix. Quali sensazioni provi facendo un remix di un brano appartenente ad un'altra band? E quali emozioni percepisci ascoltando di una delle tue canzoni remixata da un altro artista?

-|-|-» CL: Amo i remix e vorrei avere più tempo per farli. Devo rifiutare molte richieste. Mi duole ogni volta devo farlo, ma il mio lavoro deve venire prima di tutto. Tengo solo i vocals quando elaboro un remix, perché voglio modificare il brano in qualcosa di diverso da quello originale. In qualcosa che sia appartenente a me stesso. Il metodo migliore per trarre ispirazione è tenere la mente fuori dalla musica per un giorno o due. Se ascolto uno dei miei remix di altre bands lo faccio come fosse davvero il mio. Ma altrettanto, ci ho messo davvero tanto lavoro come farei per uno dei miei brani.

Cosa vorresti cambiare oggi nel mercato musicale? Ci sono regole, situazioni, problemi associati a questo mercato che dovrebbero venire modificati?

-|-|-» CL: Vorrei cambiare tutto se fosse per questo. Desidero rendere consapevoli le persone che amano questa musica quanto il filesharing, la contraffazione e la pirateria danneggiano la scena. Tante bands e labels sono fallite. Stiamo uccidendo la musica che amiamo. L'underground sta sanguinando. Dobbiamo fermare questo fenomeno e l'unico modo possibile è smettere di rubare la musica.

Una domanda strana, Claus! Remixeresti un brano di Robbie Williams? (... Eh eh !...)

-|-|-» CL: Oh sì. Al 100% ! sicuro che lo farei. Trasformare una delle sue canzoni in un'elettronica underground sarebbe divertente e forse sarebbero lieti alcuni dei suoi fans di conoscere la nostra piccola scena. Lui è, dopo tutto uno show man fantastico, ma è anche "struggeling" con una etichetta merdosa. Penso che preferirebbe essere un artista underground se glielo chiedessero. Forse una volta esaurita la sua fama potrà scrivere un po'di canzoni dal cuore. E' riuscito a comporre qualche canzone davvero profonda con magnifiche liriche ma avviluppate ad una pop song...

Ogni album che hai composto ha la sua specifica identità. Vi è stato tuttavia un lavoro particolare che ti ha impegnato maggiormente rispetto ad altri, sia nella parte tecnica o nella stesura dei testi?

-|-|-» CL: Ogni canzone e ogni album è un riflesso dei miei giorni e dei miei pensieri. Come un libro su di me. Il che significa che ogni album ha la stessa importanza. Ma si impara molto con il passare del tempo, sia con la produzione sia con le liriche scritte. Sono ancora così desideroso di fare musica che se dovessi proseguire nel modo in cui mi sento ora potrei realizzare un altro album in 2 mesi, sebbene non un doppio cd. Sono inoltre molto grato ai programmatori che creano tutti i sintetizzatori ed i software che è possibile acquistare oggi. Da quando ho perso la maggior parte del mio studio nel fallimento della Zoth ommog, ho avuto solo i soldi per acquistare i software. Pertanto, ritengo che sia importante ringraziarli per il loro incredibile talento.

Hai già identificato le priorità per il prossimo futuro?

-|-|-» CL: Sì questo è il mio programma corrente, ma può comunque cambiare. Questa estate farò una nuova canzone di Klutae ed un nuovo remix come LS per una label compilation. La prossima realizzazione sarà "Retention no2" e conterrà nel cd 1: "Science for the satanic Citizen" + "Object V" remasterd + nel cd 2 le canzoni completamente rifatte di quelle pubblicazioni, come ho fatto con la numero 1. La colonna sonora per quel film di cui stavo parlando dovrebbe uscire in una forma che non è ancora stata decisa. Forse insieme al prossimo album di LS. Così ho molto da fare, ma quando sei ispirato come me è tutto molto divertente. Uno dei miei prossimi obiettivi è inoltre impegnarmi nella scena gay per farla notare.

Quando avremo il piacere vederti di concerto in Italia?

-|-|-» CL: Poichè il mio problema principale sta migliorando lentamente, la questione è solo finanziaria. Non ho abbastanza soldi per realizzare questo progetto. Finchè sarò un "solo project" ho bisogno di altri musicisti e convincerli a venire con me, sono in contatto con alcuni. Avrei voluto esibirmi da solo in concerto ma la mia etichetta mi ha suggerito che non sarebbe stata una buona idea. L'acquisto del cd sarà la strategia. Vi donerà qualcosa che non dimenticherete. I due tour che ho fatto in Germania, Danimarca ed altre esibizioni sono impresse ancora nella mia memoria come qualcosa di veramente speciale. Vorrei tanto ripetere quell'esperienza ancora una volta... Spero di poter vedere tutti voi al più presto.

Una dedica a tutti i nostri lettori di Dside è un obbligo! Cosa desideri dichiarare loro, Claus?

-|-|-» CL: Cari lettori, grazie per tutto il vostro sostegno ed il pensiero degli ultimi 20 anni. Io e il resto della scena saremmo morti se non fosse stato per voi, ma abbiamo sempre bisogno di un po' di aiuto da voi, ragazzi. Un ottimo modo è diffondere la parola sempre nuove persone riguardo il meraviglioso mondo della musica elettronica underground fatta col cuore, dicendo che è un po meglio di quella del mondo pop-mainstream. Spero di essere in grado di suonare nel vostro incredibile paese. Sono stato da voi spesso in vacanza e sarebbe un sogno suonare lì e magari vedermi qualche partita di football e qualcuno dei vostri meravigliosi uomini. :)

-|-|-» CL: Hi mates, thanks a lot for your interest in my music and your support for our scene.

I start the interview with a reflection. What have you taught the more than 20 years of musical experience?

-|-|-» CL: I taught to watch my back. There are so many parasites in this business. I lost too many people I really thought of as family but in the end all I got was a knife in my back. Its scary to think that even in this small scene, you need to be very careful not to get burned. All the labels I Have been involved with in the past before Alfa Matrix cheated me really hard. Even Music Research / Zoth Ommog. It doesnt deserve the respect it got, only the bands on the label should get that respect. The whole label evolved around one person, and his way to the "stars" and us bands were the steps on the ladder. THen himself got cheated badly by the guy who ran Zoth Ommog and that resulted in the end of that period and I got a very severe depression out of it. So bands whatch your back! even the people you think is like family can turn out to be just another vulture. All the positive thing I got from making music was from the fans, they are the ones who made me continue for this long. So a big thanks to all of them.

Staying ever an appreciated electro project, even after so much time and in a music genre continually in evolving state, is not easy. You are pleased about this, true Claus?

-|-|-» CL: Oh yeah, its not a lot of artists who gets this long in the spotlight. I would never have thought that this would happen to little old me from Denmark. My dream was to release a record thats all, but looking back its hard to believe how many songs I've written and released. I must be doing something right I guess. I hope to be able to continue to release my music, becasue the piracy of my music and all the other bands in our scene is so strong that its close to destroying this music that we love, so we all need the support of the fans, now more than ever. It is killing what we love and I am so angry about it. The pirates have some crazy idea that they are helping the scene, but what happends is that we are selling lesser and lesser cd's while they pirate more and more. The only ones who can stop this is the fans. So I will trust their power and hope for the best. Life would not be that same without the electronic underground.

Initially your style was very similar to that of Front Line Assembly. Which other influences, developed over the years, have influenced the LT's sound as we hear today?

-|-|-» CL: I know a lot compare me to FLA, I dont agree at all. But thats a matter of opinion, so I wont go there, it doesnt matter anyway. My musical roots are metal/punk/new wave, then I fell in love with the electronic music the day I bought Fad Gadget's first single. I move around in that field of styles and I have never been scared to try mixing other styles of mysic into my songwriting. I am also a big fan of classical / church organ music and that also inspiers me a lot. ONe thing I also love it to roam around on "MySpace" searching for bands from all over the world. Thats also very inspiering. But who knows where the sounds come from I just sit down and suddently a song is there. I also use my dreams a lot as inspiration.

Klutae represents a draft style of electro/grindcore, while Leatehr Strip reflects a more electronic symphony, darkest and hostile. Have you two different souls?

-|-|-» CL: I think we all have a lot of sides. Klutae is my playground here I can be very spontanious and mess around with black humour and selfinrony. It started out as something fun to do but turned into something with its own life. But its hard to release experimental stuff these days, again becasue of the filesharing and piracy. The sales are simply too low to allow the labels to release that kind of music. I was about to start on the next Klutae album but I am ot sure I will get it released. THe ideas I have for it are VERY aggresive. More in the spirit of the first Klutae ep/album. I will keep it for myself if noone whats to release it then. Sad but true.

Your music has inspired much of the EBM / Industrial panorama. What you put into your sound to make it so special?

-|-|-» CL: Thanks a lot. If I only knew what makes my music what it is I would put it in a bottle and sell it. I put every fiber of my soul into my work, the lyrics are just as important as the music to me and not just something to get done with. I'ts my therapy too. I get all sorts of personal problems out in the open and that helps a lot. I have also always used tons of time on the production of the songs and the sounds. Thats what makes this kind of music so unique. You can create any type of feelings with the synthsounds and put your thoughts into sound.

I also know that you have a particular fondness for film soundtracks ...

-|-|-» CL: Yep. Ever since I watched Halloween (the original) and bought the soundtrack, i have been fasinated by film music. The way you can boost a film with music is amazing, and I am about to have a dream of mine come true. I am as we speak talking to a movie maker about writing the soundtrack to a indiependent horror movie. I cant say what movie before the deal is done. Its an American production and its going to be a great film. Iove read the script and even an old horror maniac like me got scared.

Your remix by Frank Tovey of the year 2006 on Myspace has been downloaded 10,000 times...it's a beautiful satisfaction Claus!

-|-|-» CL: Yeah I almost cant believe it. I just got bored one day and wanted to give the fans something for free, and then I did that remix and uploaded it. I hope the remix got the Leæther Strip name more known in other circles. If it made some people curious to my work then it was worth it.

"The Giant minutes to the Dawn", your previous album, was judged by many criticisms such as that reported LS to the best expressive levels after a few years productions of lesser impact. Do you agree about that?

-|-|-» CL: I always try to give my best with each album, but now that I have "The giant---" at a distance I can listen to it another way, and I do agree that its a very important album in my own history. I do think the the new album is even more important I learn a lot with each album and "Civil Disobedience" really give me a special feeling in my belly, that this album is going to to somthing for me soon. I hope the feeling will come true. I think this year will be a year I wont forget. I smell something coming, and I wish I knew what it was.

What you remember about the German talent-scout which has discovered you, Talla 2XLC?

-|-|-» CL: I dont like stepping in cowshit but To get things in order, Talla did not discover me, I mailed him a demotape of the first album. He didnt have any part in ANY of my music at all.I as young and got drawn into something nasty. As I said this label goal was to make him famous and rich. He was generous only if he got something out of it. If I had a complaint he turned it around and used it againt me. They never paid in time and the last time on the label I was not paid at all and that resulted in me going bust. A really really nasty record company, the worst of its kind really. Him and the boy he had running Zoth Ommog then, was the reason for my breakdown. That "boy" Talla thought he had under control was a thief and a liar. Talla and he alone killed Zoth Ommog. When I tried to come back on bloodline Talla did everything in his power to stop the "Carry me" ep. He did manage to scare bloodline to stop it, and then I had enough of the business and broke down. I could go on and on. You see, I thought of Talla and Torben Schmidt as family. It fucking hurts to be stepped on by famliy. I am still in pain from all that crap. But I am telling myself that It has made me sronger. Today I wish I never mailed him that tape.

"Civil Disobedience", a title that says a lot of itself. Your new cd. What "disobedience" are you speak about? What kind of civil system you are hating?

-|-|-» CL: After 9/11 most contries in the world have made new laws to control us and to watch over us. Little by little they have taken pieces of freedom away from us all, maybe they thought we wouldnt see it if they did it that slow way. But we should watch very carefully. They are using fear and hate to turn the "Free" world we want and need into police states. Emails are being scanned, cameras everywere and so on. I think its time to make the polititians see that this is not the world we want. And the only way to any meadia interested today is to get on the streets and practise some civil disobedience. Big brother is watching us more then he ever has, and I dont need that to live a happy life. We need to loose a little ego and get togeter to stop this.

So your lyrics are ever full of anger also on this occasion ...

-|-|-» CL: Yeah I do seem to have some anger on this album too. I see so much that is unfair. children and Aminals being abused and mistreated. Political and religious violence everywhere. Not a lot of happpy songs can come out of that if you watch the world today.

what you expect exactly from this new album?

-|-|-» CL: It has its own life now. But I hope that the listeners will enjoy it as much as I had creating it. Its my 20th anniversery album so I wated it to be a special album, and I think it turned out to be my best album yet. I hope it will do well and that it will be an album that will be rememberd in the future. Also I hope it will do so well that I can get enough money to set up a tour, when my back problem is over.The piracy is eating up a lot of sales. But I hope.

It's impossible not to ask you to speak about the third bonus cd "one nine eight two" included in the double album. If I am not mistaken this is a tribute to the year 1982 in which you bought your first analog keyboard, a Moog Prodigy. Right?

-|-|-» CL: Yes its a tribute to the year where everything started for me. If that year didnt turn out the way it did, Leæther Strip or Klutæ would never have excisted and I would have a totaly different life. All the songs are written and produced the way I did it back then and I used the sounds I could use back then. "You dont look the same" is recreated from the first song I ever wrote. I lost the tape but it stayed in my head for all these years. So I recreated if from memory. The rest of the songs are as fresh as the main album, but written as I did in 1982.

Which bands you listened far away in the 1982?

-|-|-» CL: Soft Cell, Fad Gadget, Depeche Mode, Human League, Scatterbrain, Twice a man, and many more. I still listen to all of them today.

I have read that you recently did a remix of "Circus of Death" dedicated to the Human League's single "Being Boiled / Circus of Death" ...

-|-|-» CL: Yes, a daish guy is running a HL tribute site and he asked is I could make a special version of the Klutæ cover version I did for the lask album. And I said yes ofcourse, anything to pay tribute to the old bands. We owe them a lot.

Claus, you have undoubtedly a great predisposition for the remixes. What sensations you feel remixing a song belonging to another band? And what emotions do you perceive listening to one of your songs remixed by another artist?

-|-|-» CL: I love remixing, I wish I had more time to do it. I have to turn down many who ask's. It hurts everytime I have to do it but my own work has to come first. I only want the vocals when I remix, because I want to turn the song into something different than the original. Into something I would do myself. Its good for the inspiration too and to get my mind off my own music for a day or two. If I listen to one of the remixes I've done I really listen to it as it were my own. But in return I realy put as much work into it as I would with one if my songs.

What you would change of the today's musical market? There are rules, situations, problems associated with this market that should modified?

-|-|-» CL: ll I would change if I could was this. I would make people who loves this scene see how much filesharing and piracy is hurting the scene. So many bands and labels have stopped and most of those who are left had the thoughts too. We are killing the music we love. The underground is bleeding. We got to stop it and the only way we can is to stop stealing the music.

A strange question, Claus! Would you remix a song by Robbie Williams? (... eh, eh!...)

-|-|-» CL: OH yes. 100% sure that I would. To turn one of his songs into a electronic underground song would be fun and maybe it would make some of his fans notice our little scene. He is after all a fantastic entertainer, but he's also struggeling with a shitty label. I think he would much rather be an underground artist if you asked him. Maybe he stop the fame race and write some more songs from his heart, he has written some very deep and meaningfull lyrics, but they were wrapped into a pop song.

Each album you've composed has its specific identity. There was a particular work that you committed mostly than others, both in the technical side or in the drafting of the texts?

-|-|-» CL: Each song and each album is a reflection of my days and thoughts. Like a book of me. That mean that every album has the same importance to me. But you learn a lot as time goes by, both with the production and the lyric writing. I am so hungry still to make music if I keep going the way I am right now I could release onther album in 2 months, not a 2cd though. I am also very great full for the programmers who create all the software synths you can buy today. Since I lost most of my studio in the Zoth ommog breakdown, I only had money to buy software. So I think its important to thank them for their amazing talent.

Have you already identified some priorities for the next future?

-|-|-» CL: Yep here is my current plan, it can change though. This summer I will do a new Klutæ song and a new Strip remix for a label compilation. Next full release is "Retention no2" It will contain cd1: "science for the satanic citizen" + "Object V" remasterd + cd2: songs totally remade from those releases. like I did with no1. Then the soundtrack for that movie I was talking about should come out in some form that isnt desided yet. maybe together with the next Strip album. So I have a lot to do, but when youre as inspiered as I am, and have been since 2005, its all a lot of fun. One of my goals is also to get the gay scene to notice our scene.

When we'll have the pleasure to see you in concert in Italy?

-|-|-» CL: As my back problem is getting better slowly, the last problem is financial. I dont have money to do it really. Since I am a one man bands I need to get some musicians to go with me, and I am not in contact with any around here. I wanted to maybe do some shows alone on stage, but the label didnt think that was a good idea. Buying the cd's will do the trick. Then you can get me out there and I will give you something you wont forget. The 2 tours I did in Germany, Denmark and a few shows here and there still stand out in my mind as someting realy special. I would really give a lot to experience that again. So I hope I wll see you all soon.

I hope to be able to play in your amazing country. I've been there a lot on vacation and it would be a dream come true to play there, and maybe watch some football to :) and some of your beautiful men :) its ok to watch.
