-|-|-» Rafal: Ciao lettori di Dside! Io sono Rafal, vocalist e autore dei testi. Ed ecco il resto del team: H_12 Bartosz Hervy, key specialist e produzione e Wojtek alla chitarra.

Da una prima analisi del vostro nome potreste far parte della formazione artistica della 4AD o della Projekt. Invece, ascoltando il vostro suono, potrei definirvi un mix tra elementi Xymox / Depeche Mode / Deine Lakaien. Questa è una definizione corretta?

-|-|-» Rafal: E' difficile da analizzare. Io non direi che suoniamo come Deine Lakaien o gli Xymox. Sono d'accordo che forse alcuni elementi della nostra musica sono simili a quelle band, ma in generale, credo che abbiamo un suono diverso. Sono un grande fan del sound 4AD, ma solo una piccola parte del lavoro degli ABL può essere paragonato alla musica di bands di questa sorprendente etichetta! Fin dall'inizio, come progetto, abbiamo cercato di creare un nostro suono che fosse unico e sapevamo che ciò sarebbe stato molto difficile, quasi impossibile. Siamo stati chiamati i polacchi Diary of Dreams o Diorama. E' veramente bello sapere di questo tipo di confronto, ma sarebbe meglio sentire che gli ABL suonano come gli ABL e nient'altro. E sì, per fortuna questo è esattamente ciò che abbiamo sentito da alcuni giornalisti e fans che avevano ascoltato il nostro nuovo materiale. E se ho bisogno di definire il tipo di musica che creiamo ora, direi che siamo profondamente new romantic con un sacco di nuovi suoni elettronici. Lo definiamo il nuovo "post romantic".

Voi provenite dalla Polonia, una terra che ultimamente sta vivendo un incremento interessante nel panorama electro. Quali sono i principali ostacoli che impediscono un'autentica esplosione di questo fenomeno?

-|-|-» Rafal: Non ho idea del motivo per cui l'electro music non è ancora molto popolare in Polonia. Probabilmente noi non siamo abbastanza aperti per i diversi stili musicali, soprattutto quelli alternativi. Tuttavia la situazione appare molto meglio di 10 anni fa.
-|-|-» Bartosz: Inoltre penso che noi, come nazione polacca, siamo più orientati verso la chitarra. Abbiamo una forte metal scene, ad esempio: Behemoth, Vader o Decapitated ed i fans polacchi sono quindi più inclini ai suoni chitarristici. La Germania ha una grande storia elettronica (Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream) e quindi loro possono più facilmente avvicinarsi alla scena dark/elettronica.

Il vostro nome senza dubbio è tratto dall'indimenticabile song dei clan di Xymox. E' stata stata una scelta positiva l'idea di quel nome o qualcuno ha sostenuto che è stato copiato astutamente soltanto per introdurvi meglio al pubblico?

-|-|-» Rafal: Queste parole descrivono perfettamente il significato di ABL il messaggio insito in esse. Quella resta comunque una delle mie canzoni preferite dei COX, questo è tutto !

Adesso parliamo del vostro ultimo album "Lovesick Society". Molte sonorità sono accostabili ai Cure di "Disintegration", con molti rumori eletctro style alla Depeche Mode. Volete descrivecelo meglio ?

-|-|-» Rafal: Non avevamo intenzione di suonare come i DM. Noi abbiamo rispetto per quello che fanno, ma non fino al punto di sognare di essere associati alla loro musica. E riguardo i Cure di "Disintegration", forse puoi estrapolare un'atmosfera simile a questo album nel nostro nuovo materiale, ma anche questo non era nelle nostre intenzioni. Come ho detto, cerchiamo di fare un nostro suono, ma d'altra parte, lasciamo che tutti trovino ciò che vogliono nella nostra musica ... personalmente credo che l'appellativo "post new romantic" sia il migliore per descrivere la nostra musica.
-|-|-» Bartosz: Penso che l'album abbia due facce. Una è il clima "new romantic" con unici, nostalgici suoni e con con cori melodici, ( "Shelter", "The Hottest summer in the Hystory", "Colours of the Galaxy"), la seconda invece è orientata verso il suono oscuro , voci strane, cambi di ritmica, ecc., ("Aspetto Solo Te", "Alienation, Fear, Despair" o "UV Duna"). Forse per questa ragione il CD è stato intitolato "loveSick (Society), ha ha !

"Changing" sembrerebbe essere il termine più adatto per definire il nuovo album ...

-|-|-» Rafal: Se "cambiare" significa "sviluppo", "evoluzione" e "fare passo in avanti", siamo d'accordo con tale affermazione.
-|-|-» Bartosz: E'ovvio che il nuovo album non è troppo simile al nostro debutto, questo è quindi un buon modo di evolversi.

Inoltre in questi tre anni che vi hanno separati dal primo full lenght "All of white Horizons", avete potuto disporre di tutto il tempo per sviluppare nuove strategie ...

-|-|-» Rafal: "Nuova strategia" significa per noi anche fare la stessa cosa di ciò che abbiamo fatto in passato, ma con le nuove esperienze che ci offrono la possibilità di migliorarci ed essere più ambiziosi nel fare musica.

Alfa Matrix è tradizionalmente una garanzia di cura nella selezione qualitativa delle band. Quanto è importante per voi ad aver firmato per una così prestigiosa etichetta?

-|-|-» Rafal: Far parte di questo tipo di label è per noi una garanzia di sicurezza. Riteniamo che essi si prendono cura di noi. Facciamo quello che ci sentiamo senza alcuna pressione. Abbiamo libero arbitrio con la creazione del marchio ABL e sappiamo che c'è sempre qualcuno dietro le spalle che sa cosa fare con ciò che creiamo E 'una situazione molto confortante per entrambe le parti.

Avete suonato assieme ai Diary of Dreams a Varsavia. Cosa potete ricordare di Adrian Hates e la sua band ?

-|-|-» Rafal: Abbiamo fatto un concerto nel mese di Gennaio e ricordiamo ciò come un grande divertimento ed una buona esperienza. I DoD sono dei ragazzi molto aperti e amichevoli. Ci auguriamo di poter suonare con loro al più presto.
-|-|-» Bartosz: E'stato un po'stressante ma divertente fare da band di supporto ai DoD

Conoscete una band polacca chiamata Cabaret ?

-|-|-» Rafal: Sì, la conosciamo. Fanno un gran bel lavoro.

"Aspetto Solo Te", è la traccia di apertura di "Lovesick Society". Voglio chiedervi il significato di questa canzone e perché un titolo in italiano…

-|-|-» Rafal: Sono un grande fan di David Sylvian. Egli ha fatto una bella canzone chiamata "Ti Ho Aspettato" con Andrea Chimenti. C'è una parte in questo testo:... Aspetto solo te" che mi tocca nel profondo, così ho deciso di basare la mia lirica a queste poche parole. E l'altro fatto è che ... amo il suono di questa lingua, ma non riesco a parlare italiano :)

"Southern Sun" è l'ep che precede l'intero album. Che risposta ha avuto ?

-|-|-» Rafal: Come vedo la reazione riguardo "Southern Sun" è stata molto positiva ! È un buon preludio per l'intero album "Lovesick Society"..., davvero un buon inizio, gente! Trovando ora un suono differente sembra che abbiamo scelto un buon modo di concepire la musica.
-|-|-» Bartosz: Dobbiamo dire che SS è un po'diverso dall'intero album. Questo è il motivo per cui abbiamo scelto questo brano come primo singolo: vogliamo mostrare un altro lato dei ABL, più orientato verso la chitarra, ma naturalmente con la speciale atmosfera romantica. I commenti della stampa e dei fans sono molto promettenti e ne siamo lieti.

Che rispettive esperienze musicali avete sperimentato prima di unirvi nel progetto ABL ?

-|-|-» Rafal: ABL è la mia prima band, ma nel frattempo sono stato il vocalist in una rock band chiamata Yellow Piston e ho un progetto laterale con un chitarrista di questa band.
-|-|-» Bartosz: Prima degli ABL ero ex membro della elettro-industrial band NoSignalDetected_ (che è ora in un profondo sonno), ma attualmente esploro diversi stili con qualche altro progetto simile: Blindead, Hervy o Rumours about Angels. Dal metal, ambient al tribal trance.

Avete contatti con qualche artista italiano?

-|-|-» Rafal: Purtroppo no, ma stimo i Frozen Autumn .
-|-|-» Bartosz: Sono sempre stato sotto l'influenza del cd "In Absentia Christi" dei Momentum e sempre così sarà.

Se ricordo bene avete avuto una buona esperienza live insieme ai Diorama, Faderhead, sempre a Varsavia ...

-|-|-» Rafal: Confermiamo che è stata una buona esperienza ma è sempre difficile essere di supporto e di suonare come prima band

Qual è stato il peggiore album che avete ascoltato?

-|-|-» Rafal: Cerco di evitare la cattiva musica quindi è difficile per me dire ora quale sia stata la peggiore musica della mia vita non mi piacciono il country, r'n'b, rap music ... questo tipo di cose. Ma nello stesso tempo, credo che molti degli artisti di quei generi musicali siano ambiziosi e talentuosi allo stesso livello degli artisti che ammiro.
-|-|-» Bartosz: Cerco di dimenticare i brutti albums, per cui non ricordo. Io sono appassionato di musica così mi piacciono stili diversi e diversi artisti; cerco di trovare nella musica qualcosa per me stesso.

.. ed il migliore?

-|-|-» Rafal: Tutti gli lp di David Sylvian, Marillion con Steve Hogarth, Talk Talk, Ultravox, No-Man...come potete vedere non posso mostrarvi un solo album perché è impossibile per me.
-|-|-» Bartosz: Molti. Ora come ora per me il più importante album resta quello dei Porcupine Tree "Fear of a Blank Planet". Nel corso degli ultimi anni sono stato colpito dai nuovi Ulver, Unkle, Diorama, Portishead e No-Man: sono molto bravi. Mi piacciono anche i Katatonia, Anathema, Haujobb, Front Line Assembly, The Knife. Così, come si può notare, la dispersione è molto ampia.

Ho letto che Mariusz ha lasciato la band tempo fa. Perché?

-|-|-» Rafal: Ha deciso di trasferirsi in un'altra città e iniziare una nuova vita. Ma la musica è ancora viva nel suo cuore e noi gli auguriamo tutto il meglio!

Vi aspettiamo in Italia. Quando?

-|-|-» Rafal: Non sappiamo ancora ma siamo disponibili alle vostre proposte...!

-|-|-» Rafal: Di trovare nella vita un posto per la musica in modo che non si sia mai soli! E se vi è ancora un piccolo spazio per la ABL's music, sarà il nostro successo.

Rafal, Bartosz H_12 Hervy, Wojciech, here's Agonised By Love! Welcome to our webzine, guys. Do you want introduce your specific positions into the band?

-|-|-» Rafal: Hello, Dside readers! I'm Rafal - vocalist and lyrics writer and here's the rest of our team: Bartosz H_12 Hervy – specialist in keys and production and Wojtek who plays on guitar.

From a first analysis of your name you could make part of the artistic formation of the 4AD or Projekt. Instead, listening your sound, I would define you a mix between elements Xymox / Depeche Mode / Deine Lakaien. Is this a right definition?

-|-|-» Rafal: It's hard to say. I wouldn't say that we sound like Deine Lakaien or Xymox. I agree that maybe some elements of our music are similar to those of the bands but in general, I think, we sound different. I'm a big fan of 4AD sound but just a small part of ABL's work can be compared with music of bands from this amazing label! From the very beginning, as a band, we were trying to create our own unique sound and we knew that it would be very hard, almost impossible. We were called Polish Diary of Dreams or Diorama. It's really nice to hear that kind of comparisons but would be better to hear that ABL sounds like ABL and nothing else. And yes, luckily, this is exactly what we have heard from some journalists and fans who had listened our new material. And if I need to define type of music we create now, I say that we are deeply new romantic with lots of new electronic sounds, we call it – post new romantic.

You come from Poland, an earth that lately is living an increase of the interesting electro panorama. Which are the main obstacles that prevent an authentic outbreak of this phenomenon?

-|-|-» Rafal: I have no idea why electro music is still not very popular in Poland. Probably we are not enough open for different music styles, especially alternative ones. However situation looks much better than 10 years ago.
-|-|-» Bartosz: Also I think that we as a polish nation are more guitar oriented. We have strong metal scene for example: Behemoth, Vader or Decapitated and polish fans more strikes their head to guitar sounds. Germany has great electronic history (Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream) and they could easier start with dark electronic scene.

Your name undoubtedly is drawn from the unforgettable song of the Clan of Xymox. Was it been a positive choice or choosing that name or someone has said you that you have copied brazenly that title only for introduce you better to the public?

-|-|-» Rafal: These 3 words perfectly describe the meaning of ABL's message and its one of my favorite songs of COX, that's all :)

Now we speak about your last album called "Lovesick Society". Much sounds are approachable to The Cure of "Disintegration", with many electro noises like Depeche Mode. Do you want to describe us it better?

-|-|-» Rafal: We didn't have intention to sound similar to DM. We've got respect for what they do but not until the point of dreaming to be associated with their music. And about The Cure's "Disintegration", maybe you can catch an atmosphere of this album in our new material but also it wasn't our intention. As I said, we try to make our own sound but on the other hand, we let everybody find anything they wants in our music... Personally, I think that the label POST NEW ROMANTIC is the best to describe our music.
-|-|-» Bartosz: I think the album has 2 faces. One is for new romantic unique climate and nostalgic sounds with melodic chorus (“Shelter”, “The Hottest Summer In The History”, “Colours of The Galaxy”) and second is for dark more sick oriented sounds, weird vocals, change of tempos etc (“Aspetto Solo Te”, “Alienation, Fear, Despair” or “UV Duna”). Maybe this caused that CD is named loveSICK (society) ha ha.

"Changing" it would seem to be the more suitable term to define your new album...

-|-|-» Rafal: If "changing" means "development", "evolution" and "making step forward", we agree with that statement.
-|-|-» Bartosz: It goes without saying that new album is not too much similar to the debut, this is very good way of developing.

Then in these three years that separated you from the first full length "All Of White Horizons", you had all the time to develop new strategies ...

-|-|-» Rafal: New strategy means for us to do the same what we did before but with new experiences which give us opportunity to be better and ambitious in making music.

Alfa Matrix is traditionally a guarantee of taken care of the qualitative selection of the band. How much is important for you to have signed for a prestigious label?

-|-|-» Rafal: Being in that kind of label is for us an assurance of safety. We feel that they take care about us and let us do what we feel without any pressure. We've got free will with creating ABL's mark and we know that somebody is always behind our back who knows what to do with that later :) It's a very comfortable situation for both of sides.

You have played together to the Diary of Dreams in Warsaw. What you remember about Adrian Hates and its band?

-|-|-» Rafal: We had a gig with DoD in January and we remember this time as a great fun and good experience. They are very open and friendly guys. We hope to play with them soon.
-|-|-» Bartosz: It's a bit of stress but fun supporting DoD :o)

Do you know the Polish band called Cabaret?

-|-|-» Rafal: Yes, we know them. They do good job!

"Aspetto Solo Te", is the opening track of "Lovesick Society". I want to ask you the meaning of this song and because a title in Italian…

-|-|-» Rafal: I'm a big fan of David Sylvian. He made a beautiful song called "Ti Ho Aspettato" with Andrea Chimenti. There is a part in this lyric: "... Aspetto Solo Te..." which touches me very deep so I decided to base my lyric on these few words. And the other thing is ... I love the sound of this language but I can't speak Italian :)

"Southern Sun" is the ep that precedes the full length. Which reply has had it?

-|-|-» Rafal: As I can see reaction for "Southern Sun" is very positive! It's a good prognosis for the whole album of "Lovesick Society”, very sunny prognosis... People find us sound different now, so it seems that we we've chosen a good way of change in the question of thinking about music.
-|-|-» Bartosz: We must say that SS is a little bit different that the whole album. That's why we pick this song as a first single, we want to show other side of ABL, more guitar oriented, but of course with unique romantic mood. Press and fans feedback is very promising so we're happy.

Which respective musical experiences have you experimented before you unite in the ABL project?

-|-|-» Rafal: ABL is my first band but in the meantime, I was a vocalist in a rock band called Yellow Piston and I've got independent side project with a guitarist of this band.
-|-|-» Bartosz: Before ABL I was former and member of electro-industrial band NoSignalDetected_ (which is in deep sleep now), but now I explore different styles of music with some other project like: Blindead, hervy or Rumours About Angels. From metal, ambient to tribal trance.

Have you contacts with some Italian artist?

-|-|-» Rafal: Unfortunately not but I esteem Frozen Autumn works highly.
-|-|-» Bartosz: I was always under the influence of Monumentum's “In Absentia Christi” CD and always will.

If I remember well you have had a good live experience together with Diorama and Faderhead, always to Warsaw...

-|-|-» Rafal: We hope it was good experience but it's always hard to be a support and to perform as first band :)

What was been the worse album that you have listened to?

-|-|-» Rafal: I try to avoid bad music so it's hard to say for me now about the worst music in my life :) I don't feel country, r'n'b, rap music... that kind of stuff. But in the same time, I think that many of artists making that kind of music are talented and ambitious on the same level as my authorities in the sort of music I admire.
-|-|-» Bartosz: I try to forget bad albums, so I don't remember ;o). I am passionis of music so I like different styles, different artist, I try to find in music something for me. if not I drop this music.

..and the best?

-|-|-» Rafal: All of David Sylvian lp's, Marillion with Steve Hogarth, Talk Talk, Ultravox, No-Man so as you can see I can't show you only one album because it's impossible for me.
-|-|-» Bartosz: A lot: now for me the most important album is Porcupine Tree's “Fear Of A Blank Planet”. During the last year I was impressed to new Ulver, Unkle, Diorama. New Portishead and No-Man are very good. I like also Katatonia, Anathema, Haujobb, Frontline Assembly, The Knife. So as you can see dispersion is very huge.

I have read that Mariusz has left the band time ago. Why?

-|-|-» Rafal: He decided to move to another city and start a new life. But music is still deep in his heart and we wish him all the best!

We are waiting for you in Italy. When?

-|-|-» Rafal: We don't know yet but we're open on your propositions!
