-|-|-» MMP: Grazie, è grande essere qui. Sì, questa è la prima webzine italiana per noi ed è un piacere vedere che c'è è gente interessata a noi in Italia.

In primo luogo: complimenti per il vostro nuovo cd 'Ends with E'. Ho letto che vi siete classificati secondi nella chart della A Different Drum, vicini ai Colony 5 e Iris. Cosa avete introdotto come nuovi elementi nella realizzazione del vostro secondo capitolo?

-|-|-» MMP: È un avvenimento speciale essere accanto a fasce d'ascolto come quella dei Colony 5 e Iris. Questa volta ci abbiamo messo il 'grande pensiero' in tutto, dalle liriche ai suoni da impiegare. Il primo CD è stata una sorta di prova ed il secondo ha rappresentato la conferma che possiamo fare bene.

che significato hanno i testi dell'album? Date la priorità alle liriche o alla musica?

-|-|-» MMP: Abbiamo messo più pensiero nelle liriche. Alcune sono improntate verso le esperienze personali ed altre raccontano una storia, come 'Coming Storm che parla di una donna abusata.

Le 'macchine' possono davvero procurare piacere? In che senso...?

-|-|-» MMP: In realtà esiste un doppio significato: il primo è che la 'macchina' sono i sintetizzatori ed i calcolatori ed il piacere è la musica. Il secondo è stimolare a pensarlo.

Qual'è, tra tutte, la band che vi ha ispirati maggiormente? Ho letto che siete influenzati dai Sister of Mercy. In quale aspetto?

-|-|-» MMP: Parecchie vecchie bands in realtà. Randy ama i Sister of Mercy che lo hanno influenzato ed io, (Barry) ho tratto l'ispirazione dai Depeche Mode, OMD, Joy Division ed ogni altra cosa riguardasse l'underground.

'Spirit Within', il vostro primo album del 2005, è stao l'inizio della carriera. Definite 'Ends with E' come il precedente oppure è distanziato da esso attraverso altri metodi stilistici?

-|-|-» MMP: 'Spirit Within' è un bell'album ma 'Ends with E' è molto più emozionante e le liriche hanno più spessore. Proviamo a prendere ogni progetto o album in una nuova direzione, in qualcosa di diverso per noi. Abbiamo alcune idee che possono accomunarci ad altri musicisti e stili. La macchina, comunque, continuerà ad elvoversi.

Come giudicate la corrente electro americana? Pensate che ci sia attenzione e rispetto sufficiente verso questo genere di musica, dalla stampa alla diffusione alle masse? Vi ritenete ragionevolmente messi in luce dai media o soffrite di loro certa disaffezione nei confronti un genere musicale sotterraneo?

-|-|-» MMP: La scena americana è orribile. Noi non la capiamo, molte bands che fanno una musica meravigliosa restano inascoltate e quì non ci sbagliamo. Tuttavia c'è un nucleo di fans che continuano comunque a comprare i loro dischi e sostenerli. Ringrazio il cielo per l'esistenza di Internet; esso permette che la musica sia conosciuta qualunque sia il gusto.

Qual'è la vostra etichetta corrente? Avete progetti su una major, in futuro?

-|-|-» MMP: Attualmente abbiamo firmato per la Section44 e ne siamo molto felici. Non siamo certi di voler pensare a qualsiasi major.

Avete realizzato remix per altri gruppi?

-|-|-» MMP: Elaboro di base tutti i remixes con le idee di Randy e solo occasionalmente . Abbiamo remixato i Brand New Day, Camouflage, Fake the Envy e Spurious. Purtroppo questi ultimi non esistono più.

Come avete imparato a gestire il software per creare la vostra musica? Pensate che la tecnologia possa aiutare in maniera significativa il modo di esprimersi musicalmente di un artista?

-|-|-» MMP: All'inizio è stata un pò una sfida, poi è divenuta una seconda natura. Ritengo che la tecnologia possa aiutare fino ad un certo punto ma una buona canzone resta una buona canzone, qualunque sia lo strumento o il dispositivo che l'ha generata.

Chi cura l'editing e le immagini dei vostri cd?

-|-|-» MMP: Preferiamo Discmakers. Essi possiedono molti buoni talenti e fanno un grande lavoro che trasmette il nostro messaggio.

Avete già delineato il vostro futuro percorso o vi evolvete anno dopo anno, senza seguire alcun modello specifico?

-|-|-» MMP: Amiamo solo fare la musica che ci piace e spero che piaccia anche a voi. Ancora una volta, cerchiamo di evolvere in ogni album senza riferirci ad uno specifico modello.

Parteciperete a qualche evento musicale importante?

-|-|-» MMP: Nessun progetto attualmente.

Non avete mai necessitato di un aiuto compositivo da parte di qualche altro artista di rilievo?

-|-|-» MMP: No

Cosa pensate della scena goth internazionale?

-|-|-» MMP: Da quello che capiamo è meglio di quella americana. L'Europa ha supporti più importanti riguardo ciò. Essi sembrano abbracciare contemporaneamente diverse cose e diverse idee. Mi piace.

Come giudicate la risposta europea alla vostra musica?

-|-|-» MMP: E' stata GRANDE!

...e qual'è stata la stessa opinione in Virginia, il vostro Stato?

-|-|-» MMP: Gran sostegno ma non così tanto.

A quando un tour che tocchi anche l'Italia?

-|-|-» MMP: Hey! Randy ha in Italia parenti che visita ogni anno. Forse potremmo andare lì e girare i paesi del vino...

We are here together with the electroband MMP. How are you guys? Welcome between the Dside's readers! Is this the first time that you are hosted by an Italian webzine?

-|-|-» MMP: Thanks, it is great to be here. Yes, This is the first Italian webzine for us and a welcome to see there are interested people in Italy.

First: compliments about your new cd 'Ends with E'. I read that you ranked 2 on A Different Drum's chart, just near Colony 5 and Iris. What you have introduced as new elements in the realization of your second chapter?

-|-|-» MMP: It is pretty special to be alongside bands like Colony 5 and Iris. This time around we put great thought into everything, from lyrics to what sounds to use and when. The first CD was to prove we could do it and the second was to prove we could do it right.

What meaning have your texts? Do you give the priority to lyrics or music?

-|-|-» MMP: We put more thought into the lyrics. Some are brought on by personal experiences and others just tell a story like 'The Coming Storm' which is about a woman in an abusive relationship.

The machines can really give pleasure? In what meaning?

-|-|-» MMP: It has a double meaning really, the first is that the Machine is the synthesizers and computers and the Pleasure is the music. The second is to make you think.

What is, between all, the band that has inspired you more than others?...I read that you are influenced from Sister of Mercy , in what aspect?

-|-|-» MMP: Several older bands really. Randy was into Sister of Mercy and they influenced him and I (Barry) got inspiration from Depeche Mode, OMD, Joy Division and anything that had an element of underground.

'Spirit Within', your first album of 2005, was a good starting career. Definite you 'Ends with E' like it or is outdistanced by other stylistic ways?

-|-|-» MMP: 'Spirit Within' is a fine album but 'Ends with E' much more emotional and the lyrics have more meaning. We try to take each project or album into a new direction, something different for us. Expect this to continue. We have some ideas that may include other musicians and styles.The Machine will continue to elvove.

How do you judge the electro American current? Do you think that there is sufficient attention and respect towards this kind of music by the press and the diffusion to the masses? Do you feel fairly brought to light by the media or you suffer of their certain disaffection against an undergrounded kind of music?

-|-|-» MMP: The American scene is horrible. We don't understand it, there are a lot of bands creating some wonderful music out there and it is going unheard, don't get us wrong, there is a great core of fans who continue to buy and support it. Thank goodness for the internet, it allows music to be introduced no matter what the taste.

What's your label courrently? Do you hope towards a major, in future?

-|-|-» MMP: We are currently signed to section44 and very happy. We haven't thought about any major labels, not sure .

Have you done some remixes for other bands?

-|-|-» MMP: Basically I do all the remixes with Randy's ideas thrown in at times. We have remixed Brand New Day, Camouflage, Fake the Envy and Spurious. Unfortunately Spurious has gone away.

How have you learned to manage the software tools to create your music? Do you think that technology can help significantly the way to express themselves musically of an artist?

-|-|-» MMP: Its was a bit of a challenge at first but now it has become second nature. I feel the technology can help to a point but a good song is a good song no matter what the instrument or latest gadget.

Who edited the image of your CD sleeves?

-|-|-» MMP: We used Discmakers. They have some very talented people and do a great job conveying our message.

Do you have already outlined your future path or you evolve year after year without following any specific pattern?

-|-|-» MMP: We just like to make music that appeals to us and hope it does the same to you. Again, we try to evolve with each album to no specific pattern.

Will you appear to some important musical event?

-|-|-» MMP: There are no plans right now and there isn't a whole lot of interest to warrant a big event.

Have you ever needed a compositional aid in your songs by some other important artist?

-|-|-» MMP: No

What do you think about the international goth scene?

-|-|-» MMP: From what we understand it is better than the American scene. Europe has a much better support for this. They seem to embrace different things and different ideas. I like that.

How do you judge the European response about your music?

-|-|-» MMP: It has been GREAT!

...and what's the same opinion about you in Virginia, your own State?

-|-|-» MMP: Great support but not as much.

When a tour that also touches the Italy .?

-|-|-» MMP: Hey, Randy has relatives who visit Italy every other year, maybe we can stash-away in their suitcase and tour the wine country.
